Is coal the best energy choice for Victoria? Is nuclear an answer to climate change?

Hazelwood power station - 15% of Victoria's emissions

With Victoria McKenzie-McHarg from Environment Victoria on the campaign to replace the Hazelwood power station with clean energy, and Dr Jim Green,  Friends of the Earth on nuclear energy and Brad Shone from Moreland Energy Foundation on transforming local and national energy production.

In May 2009 we held a debate between Kelvin Thomson, member for Wills, and David Spratt, author of Climate Code Red on the topic ‘Climate Change: What Should the Government be Doing?’ The event was attended by over 160 people.

Climate Action Moreland invites you to a presentation by Beyond Zero Emissions on their  Zero Carbon Australia plan.

Released at the Transition Decade launch at Melbourne Town Hall on February 14, and profiled in The Age and The Herald Sun, BZE’s report on tranforming the energy sector maps what Australia’s clean energy future will look like and what we need to do to get there.

The plan is fully costed and presentes a detailed picture on what renewable energy technologies we need to use, and where they should be located in Australia. There’ll be plenty of time for questions and discussion, and BZE campaigners will be on hand to let you know how to get involved in the work of this inspiring organisation.

Meetings are every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at 7pm at the Coburg Library, Corner Victoria and Louisa Streets, Coburg. We meet to plan actions and discuss latest developments in climate policy and activism. All welcome, no experience needed.

Sunday 2 May: launch of 100% renewables campaign and doorknocking afternoon

We’re meeting at 2pm at the Brunswick Neighbourhood House, 43A De Carle St Brunswick, for training from 2pm – 3pm. At 3pm we’ll do a photo shoot with the Melbourne Times for our 100% renewables campaign launch, and then 2 hours of doorknocking from 3pm – 5pm. Debriefing at the Edinburgh Castle (cnr Sydney Road and Albion Sts) from 5pm. Everyone welcome – call 0408 583 694 for more information.
