Heatwave building over Christmas for Central and South-Eastern Australia

The Bureau of Meteorology shows a heatwave building through the week over Christmas. The forecast is for severe and extreme heatwave impacts particularly Thursday 27 December to Saturday 29 December.
Melbourne might miss some of the impact of this with perhaps a day or two over 35 degrees + temperatures being south of the divide with some respite with cool nights from the warm days.
It is a reminder to Take care in extreme heat conditions.
Stay cool, stay hydrated. Don’t leave children or pets in the car, put out water for birds and wildlife, and look out for each other.
Remember: more people die from extreme heat conditions than from bushfires. Extreme heat particularly affects the old, the young, some people on medications, obese people, and those who need to work outside.
If you are in one of the at risk categories, don’t try to save money on electricity if you have an air-conditioner. Use it. Your life and thermal comfort is worth more than your hospitalisation or death from heat related symptoms.
Fans are a very cheap way to stay somewhat cool if you don’t have an air-conditioner.
Just remember that the Federal Government is not taking action on climate change. Read an annotated version of Environment Minister Melissa Price underwhelming speech to the UN Climate Change Conference COP24.
Australia’s emissions continue to rise, and Australia is projected to miss our very low 2030 emission reduction by a vast margin. Time to turn the heat on the Federal Government.
Enjoy the festive season, but take care in the summer heat, from all of us here at Climate Action Moreland.
