Tim Read speaking at Climate Forum

State MP for Brunswick Tim Read hosted a forum on Climate for Moreland on 28 March, 2019 with Greens politicians from the 3 levels of government, but also community representatives on the speakers panel.

The forum was labelled: New Ideas in Climate Action – Let’s Dream big! It was similar in some ways to the recent forum by Federal MP Peter Khalil, but also different in being more inclusive in inviting members of the community on the speakers panel.

Speakers Included:

  • Janet Rice MP: Federal Senator for Victoria, a climate scientist by training and founding member of the Victorian Greens
  • John Englart: Convenor of Climate Action Moreland & Award-winning Citizen Journalist.
  • Imogen Jubb: Moreland Local and Climate Change Specialist
  • Tim Read MP: Local Member for Brunswick.
  • Oscar Alateras: Young climate activist and student climate striker.
  • Imogen Quinn: Young climate activist and student climate striker.
  • Mark Riley: Councillor for Moreland, South Ward.
  • Andrew George: Extinction Rebellion Melbourne
  • Hosted by Adam Pulford, Greens candidate for Wills.

Climate Action Moreland Convenor John Englart outlined a little bit of the history and work of Climate Action Moreland, before giving a brief overview of the current focus on transport issues to tackle transport emissions globally and in Moreland.

Local issues include campaigning for Upgrade of the Upfield train line as a member of the Upfield Transport Alliance, improvements to cycling infrastructure, and raising awareness of Melbourne airport expansion and growth in aviation emissions are all issues that Climate Action Moreland has been tackling over the last 18 months.
