There are a wealth of climate meetings and actions happening daily around Victoria – see our Events page. The next major action in Melbourne will be a nationally co-ordinated Day of action on the Climate Crisis.
When: Saturday 2pm-5pm 22 February
Where: Outside the State Library, Swanston Street, Melbourne
Details: Facebook Event
People rise to give voice to Climate Emergency
Members of Climate Action Moreland were at the rally on Friday 9 January, in the pouring rain. People turned out despite the Premier Dan Andrews, Police Minister Lisa neville, and Police Commissioner all calling for the protest to be cancelled given the bushfire disaster, citing police are needed elsewhere. This was shown to be false, and conceeded even by the Police Commissioner on the morning of the rally. Local Melbourne police were utilised for the rally, more to control the traffic.
The space in front of the State Library became a sea of Umbrellas and soon blocked Swanston Street and passage of trams. There could have easily been 15,000 to 20,000 people participating in the rally and subsequent march.
