Primary school students march for climate action in Brunswick West #climatestrike
“This is the beginning of your lives as climate warriors” Moreland’s Mayor Cr Abboud told Brunswick North West Primary school kids at a local event in conjunction with #climatestrike in Brunswick on Friday March 15.
The event was organised near Brunswick North West Primary school by parents and kids at the school. It kicked off with a short march to the beat of drums from the school at about 3.45pm to the local park, Jacobs Reserve. About 100 students and parents attended (along with a few grandparents and high school students)

Momentum gathering for global school strike for climate in Melbourne
Momentum is gathering for the global student strike for climate on March 15 in Melbourne.
- Here in Melbourne a rally is being organised at 11am to 2pm outside the Old Treasury Building in Spring Street. (Facebook Event)
- In Moreland families with young children are gathering at Jacobs Reserve, Melville Road, Brunswick West between 3pm and 5pm. (Facebook Event). Some of the kids have already prepared banners for this event.

Climate strike students visit Peter Khalil MP in Coburg
On Friday 22 February climate strike students from Castlemaine paid a visit to Moreland’s Federal Labor MP, Peter Khalil, at his Coburg office.
Peter Khalil has signed the climate emergency and also stated he opposes the Adani coal mine going ahead.
But the primary demands of the student climate strikers go beyond stopping Adani. They also include a target of 100 per cent renewables by 2030, and no new coal and gas projects.
The IPCC 1.5C report published last October made it clear we need to rapidly phaseout coal, and make rapid major transformations across all sectors of the economy such as agriculture, transport and stationary energy to meet the 1.5C Paris climate target.

Students are schooling politicians on climate change
Students are going on strike around Australia, and globally on Friday March 15. Their action comes after 30 years of little action in reducing emissions with the world now facing a climate crisis.
But some politicians, mostly from the conservative side of politics, say they should stay in school.
